Quasimeme - Proficiency tests


Proficiency testing determines the performance of individual laboratories for specific tests or measurements and is used to monitor laboratories’ continuing performance. Proficiency testing is also called interlaboratory comparison. Proficiency testing compares the measuring results obtained by the participating laboratories.

SOIL-ISE

Participation in the International Soil-Exchange Programme (ISE) is open to all laboratories. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Freshwater sediment - SETOC

Participation in the Sediment Exchange for Tests on Organic Contaminants (SETOC) is open to all laboratories. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Marine Sediment

Participation in the marine sediment programmes is open to all laboratories. The type of sample is a selection of open sea sediment, estuarine sediment, harbor sediment and/or river sediment. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Freshwater and wastewater

The proficiency tests in the freshwater and wastewater programme are a continuation of the proficiency tests previously organised by Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (RWS-CIV) to support Dutch and Belgian laboratories involved in national monitoring. From 2023, WEPAL-QUASIMEME offers the full organisation of these proficiency tests for freshwater and wastewater.
Participation is open to all laboratories worldwide, however, some determinands are only suitable for local laboratories as analysis needs to be performed on fresh samples. Preservation of samples is not applicable for all types of determinands.

Seawater

Participation in our seawater programmes (AQ) is open to all laboratories. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Plants - IPE

Participation in the International Plant-analytical Exchange (IPE) programme is open to all laboratories. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Biota

Participation in the biota programmes (BT) is open to all laboratories. The type of sample is tissue from different species of fish (muscle and liver), shellfish and shrimp. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Shellfish toxins

Participation in the shellfish toxins programmes (BT) is open to all laboratories. The type of sample is tissue from shellfish, e.g. blue mussels, oysters, scallops, cockles and mussels. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Manure & Compost - MARSEP

Participation in the International Manure and Refuse Sample Exchange programma (MARSEP) is open to all laboratories. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Biomass - BIMEP

Participation in the Biomass Exchange Programme (BIMEP) is open to all laboratories. The normal validated methods and procedures of each laboratory should be used to analyse the test materials. Laboratories are requested to fill in method information codes (MIC) for each determinand. This allows laboratories to review the range and similarity of the methodologies used.

Special excercises

For emerging pollutants/determinands or in case of poor comparability among laboratories analytical methodology may need to be refined. On request WEPAL-QUASIMEME offers development exercises to develop and improve the methodology, that may result in a new proficiency test scheme on a regular base.
